You know what, I was pretty unclear about what I was asking. I didn't mean to ask if you could include the cards in the module. What I meant to ask was, is it possible for someone who downloads your module to plug in all the card text for their own personal use. In other words, is there any way using your mod for me to plug in the card text and have it available whenever I play a game with my own group.

So the difference here is distribution versus personal use. The owner of the game can't (and doesn't care) to stop me from making copies of his cards so that I have backups, for example. This is as long as I exclusively retain all copies for myself only and do not give, sell or lend.

Is there a possible answer to that question? Does that make sense?

* phpBB2 hasn't been maintained since 2008. phpBB2 has a long history of
security problems. In the event of a serious problem, we could end up
with a compromised machine. Moreover, it will be up to us to find and
fix the problem. Cleaning up after being hacked and fixing security
vulernabilities in other software is not an efficient use of our time.
Such problems are less likely if we're using something which is
maintained, and anyway we don't have to spend our time devising fixes.

* Running phpBB2 with PHP 5 has never been officially supported. I would
not be surprised to find that phpbb2 doesn't even run with some near-
future version of PHP. This will be painful if it happens, and we won't
have any advance warning. (New PHP pacakges come down the pipe every few
weeks to correct bugs and vulnerabilities.) It it is better to handle this
now at time of our chosing, rather than be surprised by it.

I noticed that the Undo, Redo and Server Connections icons (if replaced) now display correctly in 3.1.14 without reverting to the defaults. However, a new bug involving the Global Options has popped up.

If I go to change the Module Properties (to change the mod version and add a description) and click the Cancel button, the Global Options icons reproduce themselves in the icon bar of the game and the game will not operate properly when started.

Module Design :: Changing the Appearance of Dragged Item Ghost Dynamically?

Author: bdgza
Subject: Changing the Appearance of Dragged Item Ghost Dynamically?
Posted: Fri Mar 12, 2010 1:29 pm (GMT 0)
Topic Replies: 0

When dragging a counter/card VASSAL shows a transparent ghost image of the item being dragged. What I need is a way that when cards are dragged, depending on the originating window, the appearance of the card is not the actual item, but something else.

In more detail:
I have a deck of cards in a hand window. Each card is a movement card with an arrow drawn on it. Players select up to 4 cards, and place them in another map window face down. Then one by one each card is placed on the game map window, and the actual arrow is used to move the players card.

The problem is that when a player is planning his move, he can drag a card from his hand window, hover over the game map, and see the effect of the arrow on the card over the game map. No other player can see that he is doing this, since the drag is not visible to other players.

So a solution would be to have a card being dragged from the hand window, or the planning window, always be drawn (ghosted) as face down (masked). And when a player drags such a card from the game map window to the game map window (positioning it), it will draw as normal.

Ideally it would not even draw the face down card, or the correctly sized outline, but at least it would be an improvement.

How could I do this?

---

Example of the problem:

Vanilla just looks ugggh. There still a lot of wasted
space and too much scrolling.

Modifying Vanilla themes is dramatically easier than doing the same with
phpBB. For example, it didn't take long to make the discussions view
more compact. Compare

http://www.test.nomic.net/~uckelman/vanilla-1.1.10/?CategoryID=8

The modification I made to the test Vanilla theme displays the same
number of threads (50) in less vertical space than does the phpBB2 theme,
and with less visual clutter.
If we switched to Vanilla as you have it, most users would gasp and wonder
what the heck just happened. Beyond the weird look, the navigation is
painful. Why do I have to seek out and click on the Search tab to do a
search? The default landing page has all discussions thrown together, and I
have to seek out and click on the Categories tab to get them organized.
These are big drawbacks which I suspect go beyond choice of theme.

I would reorganize this somewhat: I haven't decided myself yet whether
the default tab is useless and should be removed, or should just not
be the default. Search would be integrated with all pages, not on its
own tab.

I realize now that I've gone about this the wrong way---the look is too
tied up withe the functionality for you guys, so I'm not getting any
answers to the question I originally asked.
I agree it would be nice; But the case for change is fairly weak. The forum
works and there are no complaints, just two minor incidents with CPU that I'
m sure can be sorted. I admit we may not be able to tie it in with the new W
iki so tightly; But it's no show-stopper. Moving to another forum seems lik
e a ton of work, risk and inconvenience for very minor gain. Why rock the bo
at?

The existing forum is a time bomb. It's unsupported, and in my opinion,
unsupportable.

Additionally, not having the forum tied in with a single sign-on to the
bug tracker, module library, and wiki destroys much of the value of
moving site. Multiple sign-ons is a barrier which reduces participation
in our wiki.

Quote:

There, the interface is

Vanilla and Fudforum look very amateurish and blog-like IMO. So yes, they wo
uld work; It's just that humans may not want to use them.

There have been a few mentions of looking "blog-like". (I don't agree
that FUDForum looks blog-like. I can see why you might say that for
the Vanilla them I have installed.) It appears to be meant disparagingly.
I don't understand that.

Hello
I am an old french fan of Les batailles series games but don't play them from the time where battleground then HPS appear. And I don't like regulations rules, an interactive system, since I play only via cyberboard or vassal. Too much mail exchanges.
I have downloaded your rules and modules, begin to read them and I wish to try them but I don't have occasion to meet somebody who was interested.
So if you are looking for an opponent on Quatre Bras, I am OK. Playing will urge me to read more faster.

Yeah, Tar is right about that. You want to make sure your layer trait is listed above the rotation trait.

Thanks for your answer. Is there a way to force the reload? Even in

edition mode?
You could try using the saved game updater. I'm not quite sure how it
would work. Perhaps one of the more knowledgeable developers or
module designers can join in?
Yes Tim. For PHPBB2 it is the default. But my understanding is it would still need to be converted for use by another forum.
